The Fundraising Podcast by Charitabl.

Innovation Doesn't Have to Be a Scary Word

Episode Summary

Innovation isn't about being edgy—it's about making things simpler and more functional. Whether it’s finding faster ways to clean the house or streamline tasks at work, innovation can happen in the small, everyday moments. In this episode, Joce and Mike break down the myth that innovation needs to be revolutionary or unique, instead focusing on "functional innovation." We explore how charities and organisations can embrace this mindset, creating real change within constraints, and making things easier for the people they serve.

Episode Notes

Q&A:

Coaching Question: Innovation can be pointless if it’s not functional. Everyone can think of ideas, but not everyone can think of ideas that are do-able in the constraints of time and resource a charity might face. So, let’s think about functional creativity in your role. Pick one area of your role that you find challenging or laborious and write it down on a piece of paper. Draw a rectangle around it. What is in the top right corner, not out of the box?

If you’re a copywriter struggling to keep up with the demands of copy, outside the box might be another hire to help, so maybe the top wright corner is utilising the power of generative AI to help with creative prompts or the brunt work, so you can simplify your role?

Whatever your role is, think about that top right corner, and how you can bring functional innovation to your role.
